Familia Overview Familia is a Catholic program committed to strengthening all families by helping men and women live their vocation to marriage and parenthood in all its fullness. Familia is aimed at helping you discover the depths of joy in your own family by supporting every aspect of each person's vocation.
The family is the bedrock of our society and this is where God has made known his presence in a most unique and unrepeatable way. Familia exists for the family, that they might live their mission through:
Stronger marriages
Effective communication between spouses and children
Trust in the dignity of each person
Lifestyles and decisions which bring unity and elevate the family
Strong marriages result in strong, successful families where each member lives a life of virtue and respectful service towards the other. Strong families leave a powerful legacy!
Programs Offered at St. Ignatius We offer the Motherhood series which equips women with practical tools that will enable them to understand and value their beautiful vocation as both mother and wife. This is a four-year program which consists of the following: Called to Authentic Feminism, God’s Plan for Marriage and Family, Called to Prayer, and Called to Act.
Team Meetings The facilitator, who is a volunteer from the team, attends one training session per month at Prince of Peace parish prior to the team meetings. The facilitator leads the small group discussion where participate in a gospel reflection, review questions from a workbook, and review the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Beginning in September and extending through May, meetings are held 1-2 Fridays per month from 9:30am-11:30am in the Christus Center. The nursery is available for moms with young children and nursing babies are always welcome in the class.
During the year, we also try to meet a few times outside of our regularly scheduled meetings. In the past, we have attended morning mass, prayed at Planned Parenthood, and held potlucks to socialize and share ideas about teaching our children about Advent/Christmas, Lent and our Catholic faith.
Participants Whether you are strong in your knowledge of the Catholic faith or are trying to gain a better understanding of our Catholic beliefs, Familia is a magnificent opportunity to strengthen your relationship with God and strengthen your family. We are moms with several children, some with one child and some who have struggled conceiving. We are moms who are married, some are widowed and some are divorced. We are working moms and stay-at-home moms. We are moms with newborns and moms with grandchildren. We have found that the most enlightening discussions take place when we have a diverse group of ladies sharing their ideas, thoughts and experiences.
Evening or Weekend Programs While we get asked about evening or weekend programs, we have not offered one yet. We would love to offer this and would need two volunteers to serve as facilitators in order to offer the evening/weekend program. The facilitators attend a 2 hour training session once per month at Prince of Peace Parish and then facilitate a class at St. Ignatius 1-2 times per month.
