In January of 2005 Fr. Fran Pistorius approached the Pastoral Council and Commissions of the parish with the dream of having a statue of St. Ignatius commissioned for the parish.

After several months of discussion it was decided that we would not only honor our patron saint with a statue, but also incorporate an area of the campus to recognize the memorial gifts that were made in the 2004 Capital Campaign. This idea grew into a Legacy Garden dedicated to St. Ignatius. This garden would be a place for people to gather and to publicly recognize the memorial gifts from the past and into the future.

Three artists were contacted about conceptual drawings of the statue project. World renown sculpture Timothy P. Schmalz took the idea to a whole new level. In addition to a free standing statue of St. Ignatius Mr. Schmalz proposed creating bronze plaques depicting the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius.

With input from our new pastor, Fr. Norbert Maduzia, on the final layout of the garden it became clear that the garden would become the centerpiece of our parish campus, a visible sign to the world and an opportunity for all to learn more about the spiritual life of our patron saint.

Today through the hard work and generous donations of many parishioners we are able to break ground in our new Legacy Garden. The garden phase was completed for Palm Sunday of 2007. It is our hope that the statues and additional columns will be completed so that a dedication of the legacy garden can take place in early 2010. Thank you to all who have supported and worked to see this vision through. It is a testament to the generous spirit of our community that this project has come so far in such a timely manner.
