SANDWICH MAKING/DRIVING MINISTRY
ONE SIMPLE ACT OF SERVICE by our sandwich makers yields 1,000+ brown bag lunches each month, resulting in the feeding of 12,000+ Needy Children-of-God annually!
St. Ignatius has reached out to the Casa Juan Diego community since 1999. Our parish is the only Catholic parish which provides this kind of service to Casa Juan Diego, and they are very grateful to us for our “gifts” of food to those whom they serve. It is a ministry in which the entire family can participate, and since our parish motto is “A People for Others”, we feel fortunate to be able to reach out to the community in this simple way.
In addition to meeting a vital requirement of Casa Juan Diego, a small portion of the prepared lunches are given, as needed, to clients who seek aid through the St. Ignatius Financial Assistance Program on Thursday of each week.
SANDWICH MAKERS prepare brown bag lunches in their homes once a month (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday) and deliver the lunches at their convenience to the Outreach Center Storage Room the day they are made. Each lunch consists of two hearty meat and cheese sandwiches and one piece of fruit.
DRIVERS pick up the prepared lunches from the Outreach Center Storage Room the following morning (Monday, Wednesday or Friday) and deliver them to Casa Juan Diego.
This simple act of service is overwhelming in its impact and such a worthwhile way for a family to give a little time on a monthly basis to those in need. If you would like more information or are interested in joining us, please contact the ministry at [email protected].
