What is Gabriel Project?

The Gabriel Project is a pro-life parish-based apostolate of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston offering assistance to women experiencing difficult circumstances during pregnancy. Gabriel Project volunteers act to provide practical advice and help as well as spiritual support and Christian witness to mothers in need.

The Gabriel Project® is a confidential and compassionate outreach to women who are distressed over an unplanned pregnancy. We rely on local parish communities to respond in a loving manner to the needs of the mother-to-be, witnessing to the infinite and healing love of God. A trained "Gabriel Angel" from a participating church supports the woman's choice for life through friendship, encouragement, and prayer throughout her pregnancy. In addition to providing emotional and spiritual support, the "Gabriel Angel" helps the expectant mom with various practical needs, including finding resources such as the following:

  • Pregnancy information and assistance with pre-natal care
  • Maternity and baby clothes, cribs, strollers, and various baby items
  • Referrals for housing, medical care and counseling
  • Parenting support or adoption information

There is no charge for our services and we do not discriminate because of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, or religious affiliation of our clients.

Volunteer Information

Manual and Parish Resources

We wish to make you aware of an opportunity to assist Gabriel Project pregnant women by answering the Gabriel Project Phone Hotline. Volunteers must be available during the work week since we answer the phones weekdays in two shifts from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. You use the Diocesan Phone system to forward calls from the Gabriel Project Phone Hotline to your home or cell phone. You take information, determine the nearest Gabriel Project Church, send the information to the Gabriel Project contact at that church and document the assignment in a shared spreadsheet. Two to seven phone calls are normally received in a 4 hour shift. The individual Gabriel Project Churches then take over and contact the mom to be.

Phone answering help is currently needed on Tuesday mornings (9:00 AM -1:00 PM), Thursdays both (9:00 AM -1:00 PM) and (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) and Friday mornings (9:00 AM -1:00 PM). If you are interested in answering the phones for the Gabriel Project please email:
