Our EMHC Ministry is a dynamic and vibrant ministry that allows parishioners to participate actively with clergy during the Liturgy of the Eucharist as an EMHC, Lead Chalice, Lead Bowl or EMHC Captain.
We welcome any Parishioner to join our EMHC Ministry that can successfully meet Archdiocesan Requirements. This person must be willing to attend an initial EMHC Training Session and be commissioned. EMHC are expected to participate in annual Faith Formation.

Archdiocesean Requirements for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
According to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston's Pastoral Manual:
The candidate must be 18 years of age or a senior in high school.
The candidate must be fully initiated in the church (having celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation).
The candidate must be a person of genuine Eucharistic faith, living exemplary Catholic lives and have sound psychological maturity.
The candidate must have no impediment to sacramental reception.
The candidate must be Safe Enviornment trained and in compliance with CMG requirements.
N.B. Persons in irregular marriages (married outside of the church), cohabitating couples, members of forbidden organizations (e.g. Free Masonry, etc.), priests who have left active ministry (even if laicized), notorious sinners, etc. are prohibited from this ministry.
Required Commissioning of all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Every EMHC must be commissioned. The commission period for EMHC is for five years. The commissionings will be during Advent at the Masses in which the Pastor presides. These Mass times will be posted in the fall.

Ministry Information
- Serving at weekend and weekday Masses
- Serving at special occasion Masses (e.g. First Communion, Confirmation, Holy Days, etc.)
- May require additional training sessions due to Archdiocesan procedural changes
- An initial Training session and ongoing/renewal training as required. - Training sessions are typically held in the Fall.
- All EMHC must be Commissioned by the Pastor for a period of five years.
- Must be fully initiated (Baptized and received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation) and at least 18 years old or a senior in High School.
- Must be a practicing Catholic that attempts to live in accordance with the Gospel and the Church’s teachings. (having celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation).
- If married, must be in a marriage recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.
- Committed to spiritual growth through prayer, formation classes, workshops or a retreat.
- Attend training session and be commissioned.
- Must have CMG (Safe Environment) certification
- Willing to commit to this ministry for one year.
Mission Statement
Assist the presider with the distribution of Holy Communion during the Celebration of the Mass. At St. Ignatius of Loyola, Holy Communion is distributed under both species.
